Tokyo Fashion Week unveils line-up for Spring/Summer 2027 edition

Tokyo is gearing up for its next fashion week. With one month to go until the Spring/Summer 2027 edition, the Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFWO) has unveiled a programme that signals the evolution of its flagship event. More international in scope, open to a wider range of presentation formats and increasingly focused on engagement with overseas markets, Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo will run from August 31 to September 5.

For this edition, the JFWO aims to build on the momentum of its 20th anniversary, celebrated last year. Under the theme “With Respect for Our History, Toward a New 20 Years,” the organisation reaffirms its intention to develop a Fashion Week that stays true to Tokyo’s identity whilst strengthening its appeal on the international stage.

Against a backdrop of shifting economic conditions, production methods, and presentation formats, this season’s fashion week will prioritise a schedule anchored in physical shows, complemented by other formats that allow brands to express their creative vision.

A total of 28 collections have been announced, featuring 25 official shows- four from first-time participants- as well as three Partnership Shows representing nine international brands. As in previous seasons, Shibuya Hikarie will remain the main venue for presentations, alongside brand-selected spaces.

Many returns and a stronger international outlook

The schedule will welcome back several houses that have previously shown in Tokyo, including Soduk, Megmiura Wardrobe, Yukihiro Pro-Wrestling, Haute Mode Hirata, Orimi, and Mitsuru Okazaki. Keiko Nishiyama, meanwhile, will stage its first in-person show after several seasons in a digital format, whilst Yoshiokubo will officially open the week.

The international line-up is also being strengthened with the Tokyo debuts of Taiwanese brand Charin Yeh and Chinese label Whitenook, which joins the official schedule this season following an initial appearance within a Partnership Show. Thai brand Wisharawish will also return after taking part in the Spring/Summer 2026 edition.

The Partnership Shows will also host several international initiatives, featuring designers from the Philippines, Canada, Taiwan, Spain, and France. As part of the partnership between the JFWO and Run x Andam Fashion Awards Paris, Sonia Carrasco and Anthony Calydon will present their debut collections in Tokyo.

Beyond the catwalk, the JFWO is continuing its international outreach. The Run x Andam Fashion Awards Paris showroom will return for a second edition to foster exchanges between French designers and Asian buyers.

The international visibility of the collections will also be enhanced thanks to the renewed partnership with Launchmetrics, which will distribute real-time images of the shows, backstage, and street style to several hundred international media outlets.

An expanded, fashion-focused programme

The week will also feature a number of associated events. TRANOÏ Tokyo will host its fifth edition from September 9 to 10, alongside the launch of ‘Denim Première Vision Tokyo Edition 0.’ Taiwanese brand C Jean will present a collection in Tokyo for the first time, whilst the Fashion Prize of Tokyo 2027 ceremony will honour a designer set to help elevate the international profile of Japanese fashion.

The JFWO will also continue its efforts to open Fashion Week to the general public, with street style initiatives, competitions offering the chance to win invitations to shows, and a range of activities organised in partnership with Shibuya Hikarie and Tokyu Corporation.

Finally, the JFWO has announced that the JFW Next Brand Award 2027 will not be presented this year. Whilst the jury acknowledges the potential of the finalists, it considers that none yet meets all the creative, quality, and financial criteria required to represent the next generation of brands at Tokyo Fashion Week. The organisation says it will use this decision as an opportunity to rethink the future direction of this award for emerging talent.
