The news was announced on Friday by Engracia Hidalgo, Madrid City Council’s Delegate for Finance, who presented the schedule for the event’s latest edition. It will begin with the ‘Madrid es Moda’ platform from September 7 to 10, followed by Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid from September 14 to 19.
The program begins at the Sabatini Gardens at 7pm on September 7. Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week runway schedule opens at the Arganzuela Greenhouse- which will also host the National Fashion Awards- before moving to Cibeles and, subsequently, Nebrija University.
This year’s edition is shaped by the concurrent arrival of Formula 1 in Madrid; consequently, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is moving part of its programming outside the IFEMA complex and will hold its final shows at Nebrija University.
Hidalgo maintained that the two events can coexist, noting that the goal was to adjust schedules to preserve an event that promotes the city, creates jobs, and supports the Spanish fashion industry. The delegate also highlighted the evolution of Fashion Week in recent years, noting the incorporation of unique city locations as venues for the shows.
“Fashion is, after all, a form of art,” she remarked, emphasising the connection between the designers’ creations and Madrid’s cultural heritage. The delegate noted that in recent years, the city has hosted fashion shows at landmarks such as the Puerta de Alcalá, Plaza de la Villa, and the Royal Palace- an initiative that, in her view, has allowed “fashion to draw upon Madrid’s history, and Madrid to leave its mark on fashion.”
