Indie sustainable designer Corey Dixon is set to celebrate five years as founder/owner of the Somebody Else’s Guy brand with a catwalk show in collaboration with digital women’s magazine High Life North.

The 4 September Newcastle event, officially recognised by London Fashion Week, is being heavily featured on a citywide programme as it “sets out to make history and finally put itself on the fashion map,” we’re told.

But it will also mark a “significant new chapter” for local designer Dixon whose approach to circular fashion involves “reclaimed textiles, pre-loved garments and discarded materials transformed into individually crafted, statement pieces”.

The event will bring her career philosophy to life through a new collection designed to demonstrate that “sustainability does not have to mean compromise – and circular fashion can be experimental, luxurious and culturally relevant”.

Across the half-decade, Somebody Else’s Guy has developed a “distinctive position within the North East fashion scene by challenging the traditional relationship between waste, luxury and design”.

Rather than creating new garments from raw materials, Corey “works with what already exists, sourcing unwanted and discarded textiles and reimagining them through craftsmanship, tailoring and creative design”.

Dixon said: “Five years ago, Somebody Else’s Guy started with a small vision and I never imagined that it would lead to this moment.

“This show is more than just a runway. It’s about showing people what can happen when you stop looking at something as waste and start looking at it as an opportunity. Every piece I design has a story, and I want people to see the creativity and craftsmanship that can come from giving materials a new lease of life.”

The show will take place within Newcastle Contemporary Art campus and the partnership with High Life North forms part of a wider ambition “to put North East creativity firmly on the fashion map while creating new opportunities for independent designers and sustainable businesses in the region”.
